Are You Sure Entrepreneurship Is For You?
I used to think that becoming my own boss would be the pinnacle of success. After 6 years — I can tell you it’s more to it!
Techpreneur Newsletter readers will tell you that I enjoy sharing the entrepreneur journey. It’s my way of reflecting, writing and helping others.
Lately, I’ve been on Reddit responding to entrepreneur questions. I’ve noticed a common trend in the entrepreneur subreddit (forum).
Here are some examples…
“I want to be in business, I’ve tried this or that…but where do I start”
“What major should I take in college to become an entrepreneur”
“I am planning to start a business, but I am not aware of the financial part”
“What books should I read to make money?”
I do my best to answer these types of questions but am often wondering if business is for this person?
There's nothing wrong with asking total strangers for advice on major life decisions (I guess?).
What are your thoughts?
Better yet — Are you sure entrepreneurship is for you?
Here are my top 3 things people should consider when pursuing entrepreneurship.
Passion & Vision — Entrepreneurs have a deep passion for their beliefs and business. For me it was about time freedom and flexibility. And — entrepreneurs must have a clear vision and commitment to results. I told a Redditor - passion helps you remember your “WHY” so you don’t fold like a lawn chair when facing adversity.
Resilience & Adaptability — Entrepreneurs face uncertainty, obstacles, and setbacks. Those who succeed are resilient and can bounce back from failure. They view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than roadblocks. Additionally, successful entrepreneurs adapt. They pivot in response to market changes or emerging trends.
Risk-taking & Decision-making — Entrepreneurship involves taking calculated risks. Successful entrepreneurs are willing to step outside their comfort zone and embrace uncertainty. They assess risks and make tough informed decisions.
Being an entrepreneur requires more than three traits mentioned. Other required skills are: creativity, leadership, networking, marketing, sales, and finance.
