Beyond the Frustration: Embracing the Growth Before the Glow

Have you ever felt discouraged because the thing you're working on ‘feels’ like it's not working?

Myron Golden asked this very question in his talk on "Don’t Quit Right Before It Starts Working".

My ears perked up and I wanted to know more.

Myron goes on to say that he was so discouraged once that it brought him to tears. He was working on a new venture and it didn't feel like it was working.

I know that feeling all too well.

There’s one thing that resonated with me.

He said "All work, works."

Let's break it down...

Doing ‘the work’ can have four effects:

  1. Work on you

  2. Work for you

  3. Work with you

  4. Work against you

Here's the key point...

Often times we are too busy focusing on what ‘the work’ will do for us
(i.e. metrics).

We then overlook what "the work" is doing on us.

I'll put it this way...

I recall starting a workout journey (years ago).

I began to wonder, why I wasn’t flexing 6-pack Abs after two weeks?

But what about the daily discipline developments? Or the internal health improvement (stamina).

Eventually the 6-pack Abs came. Only after the daily disciplines (eating clean) were a habit.

The goal should be this...

Be willing to do ‘the work’ and continue in the work, until it works on you ― to become the person that it works for.

That was a mouthful huh?

I encourage you to recite that statement several times until it sinks in.

I promise it will help keep your ambitions and delayed gratification into perspective.
