Colón to Casco Viejo: Keep Going and Growing
You'll have to excuse me, but I'm still filled after our recent trip to Panama.
I always like to reflect on my most recent experiences, and I landed on this...
When you hear the word gang, what comes to mind?
Think trouble. Think danger. Think something to avoid.
For most people, it's negative.
Not for me.
Gang means going and growing.
I picked that up from a YouTuber years ago and it stuck.
Here's the thing...
Every trip we take, we bake in a cultural assignment.
An opportunity to learn how the locals live.
Some may say, do as the locals do.
I never saw the value in showing up somewhere and not learning the history behind it.
So there we were, walking the streets of Colón, Panama.
Most people said we were crazy for doing that.
Uncle Raul, our tour guide, was well respected, so I felt safe.
But in all that rusticness, the people were warm. Still inviting.
That's when it hit me…
It's not about the circumstances. It's about how you respond to them.
Gang might look like an ugly word on the surface.
Why not flip your circumstance into something positive?
Keep going and growing. That's the name of the game.
Our trip was coming to an end, but there was plenty left to do.
The next day, we went to Multiplaza.
I'm not much of a shopper, but I wanted to see what their malls were like.
We skipped Albrook, the largest mall in Latin America.
But Multiplaza was still magnificent. Modern. Jaw-dropping.
Better than most malls we have here in the States.
Same thing happened at South Africa's "Mall of Africa."
Simply amazing!
Think about it for a second...
If you keep going and growing, you expand your potential.
Thomas Edison once said, "If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves."
Our last day before leaving proved that. We had an early flight the next morning, so the plan was simple. Swim. Relax. Coast into the trip's final hours.
But the bucket list was still looming over us.
I still hadn't made it to Lo Que Hay, the restaurant others raved about.
So we made some quick arrangements to squeeze it in.
Come to find out, it was right in Casco Viejo, the old town we hadn't had a chance to see yet.
Double bonus!
The food was amazing. That red snapper (chef's kiss).
Highly recommend.
Later that evening, we made our way to Umami Bodega Music Club for the live jazz.
These musicians were some of the best I've heard. And that's coming from another musician's perspective.
I couldn't stop smiling and shaking my head in disbelief.

There was nobody to delegate to.
I had to press my way through.
Those are the moments you learn who you really are.
The beauty of it is this...
One day you can pour that knowledge into someone else and help them limit the pain you went through.
The Challenge: Go Through It, or Grow Through It
This week, ask yourself:
What situation am I currently trying to get through?
Who taught me the most in my season of trouble?
What lesson can I share with someone else who could benefit?
Keep going and growing!
