Drawing Toward Destiny

Sketching Beyond What You See

Drawing Toward Destiny: Sketching Beyond What You See

We had a great evening celebrating my big sister's wedding reception.

On the way home, I found myself staring at the road… the trees... the way everything seemed to disappear into the distance.

Keep in mind, I had my sketchbook out, ready for inspiration.

Then it hit me...

Single point perspective. The vanishing point.

Get this...

For the last few months, I've been working on my sketching.

But not just doodling.

I grew up loving to draw. I could recreate anything I saw — a good skill to have.

But it wasn't until recently that I learned there's a whole new world of technique behind drawing.

Why now?

Well, I have product ideas.

Yes, modeling software is my go-to in most cases.

But what if all I have is pen and paper?

And I've been on an industrial design kick to manufacture my own products.

And being able to articulate the story behind them? That's a must.

Here's the thing...

I remember taking engineering drafting in college.

It was a struggle because I had a hard time visualizing the different 3D perspective views.

Now I find great satisfaction in improving on things that once defeated me.

So there I was, staring out the window...

That point where the lines of the road and trees seem to converge and disappear?

We call that a vanishing point.

The truth is...

In life, there are times where we can only see up to the vanishing point.

But through faith, we keep going.

Yes, life is finite. But you have to keep running your race.

When you're sketching in perspective, you're taught to slant lines toward the vanishing point.

Everything converges there.

Here's the key...

The vanishing point isn't where things end.

It's just the limit of what we can see from where we're standing.

As you keep moving forward the road keeps unfolding.

This principle applies to everything I'm pursuing now — product development, industrial design, refining the skills that once defeated me.

I can't see the complete picture yet.

I don't know exactly where this journey leads.

But I'm drawing the lines anyway.

I'm sketching the vision.

I'm moving toward that point where everything converges.

And I'm trusting that as I move forward, new perspectives will emerge.

New vanishing points will appear on the horizon.

The Challenge: Draw Toward Your Vanishing Point

This week, I want you to identify your vanishing point.

What's that thing you can barely see in the distance?

That dream that seems to fade the closer you try to look at it?

Don't stop at what you can see clearly.

Draw toward the vanishing point anyway.

Sketch the vision. Put pen to paper. Take the next step even when you can't see the complete picture.

Remember — the vanishing point isn't where your vision ends.

It's just where your current perspective can't reach yet.

Cheers!
