From Rejection to Redemption: My Chrome App Approval Story
My software developer dream seemed over after my software app was rejected twice.
But it birthed another product to help other developers.
Last week, I was excited to finally submit my project.
This was my first time applying for approval.
So, I took my time and reviewed everything thoroughly.
It was on Monday, October 14, 2024 that I received the news.
"We regret to inform you that the most recent submission of your item was rejected. Please find the details below." - Google
I read through that notice and shrugged it off.
Of course there was some disappointment but I knew it was minor changes.
I made the changes, and re-submitted my application.
Wednesday comes around and to my surprise...
"We regret to inform you that the most recent submission of your item was rejected. Please find the details below." - Google
Now what?
It was down to one violation.
By now, I'm debating whether or not I can get approved by Friday.
I re-submitted and worked on other projects.
Guess what?
Google responded earlier this time.
Thursday, I get this message.
" Congratulations! The following item that you submitted for review has been approved and is now ready for publishing to the Chrome Web Store." - Google
I was happier than a kid in a candy store.
I shared my concern face with my wife and she read the notice.
Congratulations!!! "I thought you had bad news."
Here's the thing...
I enjoyed that moment of triumph and then my gears started turning.
Hmm…how can I expedite this process next time?
I ended up writing a Python program that scans code to detect the violations.
It generates an actionable report that other developers will appreciate.
And it will be sold in my Banx Engineering software store.
Get this...
When I look back over this entire process, a simple lesson by Steve Harvey comes to mind.
Steve said that "there comes a time that every successful person has to jump."
Paraphrasing, he said "we're all on the cliff of life. You see others following their dreams
and you're standing there watching. You have two choices, stand there in comfort or take a leap of faith and jump."
Of course it won't be easy.
If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. Right?
Steve goes on to say that, "when you jump that parachute may not open immediately."
Don't panic or give up!
You're going to face some bumps, scratches and even scrapes along the way.
And finally...
Just when you think it's all over, here comes the parachute! (or not)
But if you don’t take the risk, you’ll never get to test your parachute.
Giles Hutchins put it this way, "Adversity reveals genius, prosperity conceals it."
Cheers!
