Coding, Conditioning, and the Call to Fight

From Ringside to Real Life: Coding, Conditioning, and the Call to Fight
Boxing is one of my favorite sports.
As a kid I remember the excitement and anticipation to watch “Friday Night Fights” with Dad.
He loved boxing and I later learned that he was on the US Air Force Boxing Team.
It all made sense.
He taught me the basic skills which later helped me excel in karate.
As we watched the boxing matches, you couldn't help but coach or referee.
But like any sport, it's easier to coach while watching from the comfort of your couch.
The fact of the matter is this...
“ Life is a fight for territory and once you stop fighting for what you want, what you don’t want will automatically take over. ” , Les Brown
My wife Angela and I have been attending Fight Into Fitness Boxing Gym for four years.
The coaches, atmosphere and boxing fitness classes are outstanding.
Here's the thing...
After a long day of coding software, the heavy-bag and challenging workouts are therapeutic.
Don't get me wrong, it's not easy as sitting on the couch and spectating.
I have a new appreciation for boxing and the conditioning that's required.
There are moments I want to quit but I can't stop fighting.
And there are times I'm smiling because I visualize successfully completing my projects or hearing a command that reminds me of Dad.
The bottom line…
You have to surround yourself with fighters!
A week ago, a reporter and cameraman stopped by the gym for a PR event.
I want you to hear the stories and you may recognize a person or two as well.
Les Brown often closes his speeches with this powerful call to action and I trust it will enrich your life.
“ If you want a thing bad enough to go out and fight for it, to work day and night for it, to give up your time, your peace and sleep for it.
If all that you dream and scheme is about it, and life seems useless and worthless without it.
If you gladly sweat for it and fret for it and plan for it and lose all your terror of the opposition for it.
If you simply go after that thing that you want with all your capacity, strength and sagacity, faith, hope and confidence and stern pertinacity.
If neither cold, poverty, famine, nor gout, sickness nor pain, of body and brain, can keep you away from the thing that you want.
If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it, with the help of God, YOU WILL GET IT! “
— Les Brown
