I Almost Bought It: The Story That Stopped Me

You wouldn't believe how a random video turned into a life-changing experience.

I'm currently developing a chrome extension called Tube Genie Pro. In case you didn't know, a Google Chrome extension is a small app that adds features to your Chrome browser.

I'll discuss functionality later down the road.

But here's the thing.

Like anything I do, I go all in on knowledge, understanding and action.

Lately I've devoured every YouTube video, training and software development podcast I could find.

As I progressed through my chrome extension course, the next chapter was titled: “My favorite story”.

I loaded the video and clicked play.

There's a gentlemen speaking on a stage.

He's describing his challenges as an entrepreneurial.

I'm listening intently.

The more he spoke, the more it resonated with me.

One day, he took a leap of faith to connect with someone he admired.

Long story short, the person handed him a book.

The book had the answers — No, not the Bible. (wink)

He was told to read it daily and act on the its principles.

By now, I'm on the edge of my seat.

As he spoke, I did a quick search on Amazon for the book.

Hmm....not there?

Google lead me to a used book store.

The inconvenience didn't matter because I wanted this book!

I setup an account and clicked “add to cart”.

I was ready to complete my purchase but hesitated?

It was only 9 bucks.

All of a sudden, the presenter’s voice changed.

He said, by the way...this is just a random book I picked up.

Huh?

You could’ve heard a pin drop.

But my shock quickly turned into laughter.

He said, you wanted this book but it's not about the book.

You’re not buying the book.

You’re buying my story about the book.

WOW! (shaking my head in agreement)

The fact is, he knew his audience, connected with pain points and provided “the pain killer”.

It was brilliant!
