Lack of Critical Thinking - In An Information Overloaded World
This week I heard a commentator state that “the average C-student is now a
D-student of the past”.
Her argument was that schools do not teach critical thinking like before.
Here’s the problem…
Society is overloaded with information and disinformation.
Lacking critical thinking skills are problematic…
You may be wondering, what does this have to do with Techpreneur news?
I'll tell you...
Based on my research...the argument is that schools do not focus enough on critical thinking due focusing on standards of learning programs. Forbes
But here's the thing...
Have you ever seen a rumor spread on social media like a wildfire?
If one person had stopped to question or fact-check the claim, the spreading would have ceased.
Get this…
I spent 10+ hours studying YouTube playbooks this week.
Short-form content is in high demand.
Why?
We are in the age of TikTok and attention spans of the younger generations are shorter.
You have 3 seconds before a person decides to watch or scroll past a video.
It was recommended to have pattern interrupts (moving parts) every 3-5 seconds in a video to keep people interested.
Is this what we've become!?
I didn't want to be part of the problem with overly optimized videos.
Good news…
I created a new channel called Brain Valley. It focuses on history, STEM and brain health (brainteasers).
This month is Black History Month and I decided to start with that content first.
I feel like if we’re consuming more information, might as well make it intellectual too.
Jim Rohn said " Every day stand guard at the door of your mind".
Les Brown often said “Program your mind (with positive information) or your mind will be programmed. (i.e. systematic programming)
Allow me to rephrase: Garbage in = Garbage Out.
The choice is yours!
