Proof That Rest Works : My Circuit Board and the Knicks Agree

Three weeks away.

But Monday night?

My bed loved me and I loved it right back.

Being away gave me something I didn't expect — space to rejuvenate.

I wasn't working as hard.

I was present for family.

And when I finally got home this week, I came back recharged.

Get this…

I designed my first custom circuit board and submitted it for fabrication.

It's being built right now. I'll have it in hand next week.

That's a big milestone for the NOPHUME project.

First board. First real hardware step.

Now the not so fun part — shipping and tariffs tripled the cost of the boards themselves.

That's a whole other conversation.

But lesson learned.

Next order I'm combining all my boards together to save on shipping.

It's still progress in spite of.

So this morning Rev. Matthew Watley of KFAME Church dropped a sermon titled "Play Like a Champion."

He used the NBA Finals as his backdrop.

Here's the story.

Last year the New York Knicks made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

And Coach Tom Thibodeau was criticized for one thing — overplaying his starters.

Never letting them rest.

Running them into the ground.

They lost.

This year? New coach Mike Brown had a different plan.

He built a strong bench.

He rotates his starters.

While they rest, the bench holds or extends the lead.

The result?

The Knicks are in the Finals.

Same players. Different strategy.

Rest as a competitive edge.

Rev. Watley also said something that hit close to home.

Leaders and caregivers are always putting others first.

Always pouring out. Rarely pouring back in.

He's taking three months off himself.

And before he leaves, he's positioning powerful leaders during his sabbatical.

That takes confidence. That takes planning. That takes a person who understands that rest isn't quitting — it's maintenance.

He made another point that I loved as well.

You know how your computer keeps prompting you to run updates?

And you keep clicking "remind me later?"

Those updates exist to protect your system.

Keep it running clean.

Prevent viruses and poor performance.

But we delay them because the timing never feels right.

We do the same thing with ourselves.

We wait until we crash before we seek rest.

We wait until things break before we seek help.

But this weekend was different.

I set a goal to work on circuit board designs.

Instead of grinding all day I worked a little.

Took a break. Came back. Took another break.

Before I knew it, everything was complete on Saturday.

Less time than I expected. No mental fog. No burnout.

The truth is...

When I learned to break big goals into smaller wins — everything changed.

My stamina improved. My clarity improved.

So here's the question for you this week.

How often are you overplaying your starters?

Are you waiting until you crash before you rest?

Routine rest isn't weakness.

It's how champions stay in the game.

Even God rested after He created the heavens and the earth.

Why shouldn't we?

Cheers!

A Beginner's Guide To AI Marketing (AI Marketing 101)

Many businesses struggle with a "leaky bucket" sales pipeline, losing potential revenue due to poor lead follow-up and inefficient systems. By ignoring the need to capture lead data, failing at "speed to lead," and neglecting nurture campaigns, companies waste advertising spend. AI marketing resolves these issues by automating lead engagement, appointment reminders, and post-sale communication. Implementing these technical automations plugs profit leaks, boosts conversion rates, and ensures long-term business growth and stability for owners.
