Rainy Day Readiness: Building a Business Umbrella
Our 20th Anniversary Belize vacation was awesome!
The food, the people and the scenery were all outstanding.
We even took a moment to go on a real estate tour.
But the craziest thing happened on our way to the airport.
We took a 1.5 hour water taxi from San Pedro to Belize City.
Then there was a 25 minute taxi ride.
The weather was sunny and perfect all week.
But it started to rain a bit.
The rain started covering the windshield.
Now I'm paying more attention to the driver's actions.
No windshield wipers? (what is he doing?)
Oh no! It’s raining harder.
Finally the driver pulls over raising the hood.
A few seconds later the wipers start working.
My wife and I grin at one another.
We're back on our journey to the airport.
Oh no!
About 10 minutes later ― it stopped raining.
The windshield was bone dry and the wipers were screeching!
There was an awkward silence inside the taxi.
If a pin dropped we would have burst into laughter.
Then I hear a clicking sound.
The driver is attempting to switch off the wipers (no success).
And guess what happens next?
Yes, he pulls over again!
He raised the hood and the windshield wipers stop.
I recorded a video clip this time (don’t judge).
It was a big relief to make it to the airport safely.
But here's the thing...
There is a deeper meaning behind this story.
In your business, are you prepared for a rainy day?
In the beginning things may be going your way due to the newness
and excitement.
But have you checked under the hood?
For me the biggest lesson learned was managing lead flow.
Zig Ziglar once said ― "You are out of business if you don’t have a prospect."
It boiled down to creating systems to ensure I had a pipeline of new clients.
One tool that may help you is a SWOT analysis.
SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
A SWOT analysis is a technique for assessing these four aspects of your business.
Stay dry...

PROMPT: Photorealistic drone photo of a mountain slope covered in dense vegetation with a mist of humidity. Among the greenery, the outlines of a massive, aged, and rusty cruise liner are visible. The scene is epic and mysterious, reminiscent of the X-Files, with the overgrown jungle partially obscuring the ship. The atmosphere is eerie and captivating, with the mist adding a sense of intrigue and otherworldliness. The lush green foliage contrasts with the decaying, rusted structure of the cruise liner, creating a surreal and enigmatic visual.
