The Distribution Gap: Why Great Products Still Fail
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
I spent time with family back in Virginia.
But I also spent time finishing my app.
Get this...
Building the app was the easy part.
The hard part? Distribution.
Posting to app stores isn't a quick process.
There are checks. Balances. Security reviews. Privacy audits.
And honestly? I get it.
Imagine someone installing your app on their phone.
There's a lot of trust involved.
A lot of personal data at stake.
Here's the thing...
This process isn't for the "get rich quick" crowd.
It's not for people looking to throw something together and expect overnight success.
It requires patience. Persistence. And a real commitment to building something valuable.
The Marketing Deep Dive
While I waited for approvals, I dove deep into app marketing.
And you know where that led me?
Back to TikTok.
A lot of successful apps gain massive distribution through TikTok.
Real traction. Real downloads. Real users.
So I set up a separate account just for my development work.
A dedicated space to start promoting my apps.
The funny part?
While I was on TikTok, I started seeing people I'd followed on YouTube and Instagram.
The algorithm was connecting the dots.
Then I came across Dr. Sonya Stribling.
She's a business coach I used to follow.
And she dropped this truth bomb:
"If people don't know what you do, they can't pay you."
Let that sink in.
The truth is...
No matter what business you're in.
No matter what service you offer.
No matter what product you've created.
If people don't know about it, they can't buy it.
Can you relate?
The Revenue I Almost Missed
I can speak from experience here.
For years, I built little tools and utilities. Side projects. Weekend experiments.
They just sat on my hard drive.
Then I started putting them in my online stores.
I started sharing tutorials on YouTube.
I gave people a place to actually download what I'd built.
And you know what happened?
I started waking up to random checks. Small amounts. But consistent.
People were finding my tools. Downloading them. Using them. Paying for them.
All because I made them visible.
Here's what hit me...
I had been sitting on revenue-generating products for months. Maybe years.
Not because they weren't good enough.
Not because people didn't need them.
But because I never told anyone they existed.
The Distribution Principle
Building something great is only half the battle.
The other half? Making sure people know it exists.
Your best work doesn't matter if it stays hidden.
Your most valuable service doesn't help anyone if they can't find you.
Your game-changing product won't change anything if nobody knows about it.
Visibility isn't vanity.
It's how you serve people.
It's how you create impact.
It's how you get paid.
The Challenge: Make Your Work Visible
This week, I want you to audit your visibility.
Ask yourself:
What have I built that's sitting unused?
What service do I offer that people don't know about?
Where could I be showing up that I'm currently invisible?
Then take one action to increase visibility:
Share a tutorial about your work
Post about your service on a new platform
Put that side project somewhere people can actually find it
We're finishing this year strong.
Let's make sure the work you've done actually reaches the people who need it.
Cheers!
