The Longest Wait : The Sweetest Finish

The New York Knicks just won their first NBA Championship since 1973.

They beat the San Antonio Spurs four games to one.

But here's what made it remarkable.

The Knicks were down 29 points in a prior game.

Almost unheard of.

They figured out a way to come back and win.

Now get this...

San Antonio? Loaded with talent. Young and hungry.

They jumped out to big leads. Showboating. Celebrating early.

But they spent all their energy when there was still a whole half of basketball left.

Mental errors under pressure.

And pressure has a way of putting a magnifying glass on everything.

Here's another example.

Oregon senior Tanguy Pepiot was running the 3000m steeplechase. He had a massive lead. The finish line was in sight.

So he started waving to the crowd.

What he didn't know — Washington's Meron Simon was unleashing a furious kick from behind.

Simon passed him and won by one tenth of a second.

One tenth.

Pepiot said: "I heard some noise. I was very surprised. Then I checked the screen and I was like, 'Whoa, somebody's coming!'"

Don't celebrate before you cross the finish line.

Sound familiar?

In business it's the same.

You start with a great idea. The energy is high. You're fired up.

Then the peaks and valleys hit.

There will be times you want to quit.

Don't.

Press through. Fight through it.

Remember why you started.

As long as you keep going — the finish line is still yours to cross.

Don't let up.

Finish strong!
