The Ship Fast Culture

A Path to Success or Failure?

The Ship Fast Culture: A Path to Success or Failure?

As a developer working on a Chrome extension, I've been struggling with the "ship fast" culture.

The allure of rapid deployment and instant gratification is enticing.

But I've learned firsthand that it can be a double-edged sword.

Recently, I encountered a significant roadblock while testing my software.

A critical bug surfaced due to a third-party connector, forcing me to delay my launch.

This issue challenged the "ship fast" approach I was seeking.

The intent is creating an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) versus Moving Very Problematic.

Maybe I'll trademark that?

But here's the thing...

I was pressured to meet my deadline, but quality is always my priority.

Besides, who wants to deal with avoidable customer complaints?

The "ship fast" culture can lead to compromises that results into long-term consequences.

Meaning, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

As entrepreneurs, we must find a balance between speed, cost and quality.

This reminds me of the "triple constraint" ― Good, Fast and Cheap.

Pick Two.
