The Three Pillars of Success: A Weekend with My Mentor

I spent the weekend visiting family and had lunch with my mentor.

It was like we never missed a beat.

As I shared my vision and accomplishments, he smiled and said, "Banks, you're doing great! You're on your way.”

Of course, I couldn’t go without thanking him for his guidance over the years.

We then talked about legacy.

I told him about all the people he's helped, all the lives he's poured into,

all the positions and opportunities he's created for others.

"Your legacy's going to live on," I said.

It was one of those rare moments where the mentee pours back into the mentor.

The hard truth: It’s challenging seeing your loved ones and mentors age.

The light in their eyes might be a little dimmer than last time, but their wisdom?

That burns brighter than ever.

Before we parted, he left me with this message.

  • Know where you want to go. (Vision)

  • Know how to get there. (Plan)

  • Know what to do upon arrival. (Execution)

Here’s the thing…

Most people have one, maybe two of these.

The ones that have all three? They change the world.

And they pour that wisdom into the next generation, confirming their legacy.
