“ You may enjoy their glory, but you don't know their story. ”
They'll Call It Arrogance : Until They Call It Success
Yesterday I had the privilege of celebrating my friend Makeda's 50th birthday.
It was a grand occasion.
But what stood out wasn't the celebration.
It was something she said when she stood up to give remarks.
She said: "I wanted the people that I love to meet the people that I love."
Let that sink in...
She wasn't just throwing a party.
She was intentional about connecting her worlds.
Every person in that room was there on purpose.
And it made me think about success and legacy.
About the journey.
About what it really costs.
There's a story about Coach Deion Sanders that's relevant.
Basketball. Baseball. Football. He excelled at all three.
Breaking records most high school kids only dreamed about.
But every time he looked up into the stands.
His mom wasn't there.
Not because she didn't care.
Because she was working long hours at the hospital, hard shifts, doing what she had to do to build a better life for him.
No pat on the back. No "great job, son."
Only empty seats where family should've been.
He had to go make it happen anyway.
And he did.
Once he got to Florida State University, his mom drove 6 hours to see him play.
She showed up. And that was everything.
Now you may know the Sanders family.
People often mistake their confidence for arrogance.
Their faith for boasting.
But I came across a post recently that puts it in perspective:
"You can't humble someone who didn't get their confidence from compliments."
That hit home for me.
In high school, I was involved in academics, music, band — racking up accolades.
My parents couldn't always make every event.
When they came to the important ones, it meant everything.
But most of the time?
I had to go do my thing.
No one patting me on the back every time.
No external validation waiting at the finish line.
You showed up, performed, and moved on to the next thing.
It became part of my modus operandi.
To be honest?
That's exactly what's required right in everything I'm building.
The software. The products. The Skool community. TEPA.
Nobody's going to cheer every late night.
Nobody sees the 3D printer running at midnight or the code that didn't work for the third time in a row.
You have to be intentional. Stay focused. Stay determined.
Question:
What are you doing to stay intentional, focused, and determined in your walk?
Remember this..
The stands might be empty right now.
Keep going anyway.
