Fight For It Or Forget About It: What a Staycation Taught Me About Freedom

I don't know about you, but most of our weekends follow the same routine.

Projects. More projects. My wife working on her writing.

Me grinding away at code…

But this weekend? We broke the pattern.

A "staycation" with our friends Angel and Makeda from Fight Into Fitness.

By the time we returned home, it seemed more like a retreat.

Here's the thing...

Sometimes you don't realize how much you needed a break until you actually take one.

We did an "escape room" and enjoyed amazing food.

But what stood out most?

The conversations about empowerment, working together, and serving others.

One word kept coming up: fight

Fighting for freedom. Fighting to do things on your own terms. Fighting for what matters.

It reminded me of a Myron Golden discussion: "Fight For It Or Forget About It."

Myron shared the story of Frederick Douglass. Douglass wanted to learn to read.

So determined that he traded leftover food for reading lessons.

That education led to his freedom.

Think about that...

This man fought for knowledge when the world (slavery) was designed to keep it from him.

He didn't accept what life offered. He fought for his freedom.

Myron also taught me: Life will give you what you'll fight for or accept.

Most people accept. Winners fight!

But here's the twist — winners also quit.

They quit things that don't serve their purpose.

During our conversations, I realized something important.

You can't drag everyone along with you.

Myron puts it this way: "What you drag in, you have to drag around."

That's exhausting. And it kills your momentum.

To me, each day is a fight for growth.

Would you agree?

Get this…

Most people ask, "What do you do for a living?"

But Myron suggests a better question: "What do you do while you're living?"

How would you respond?

The Challenge: What Are You Fighting For?

Look at your life right now.

What are you accepting that you should be fighting for?

What are you dragging around that you should quit?

What experiences are you avoiding because you have to fight for them?

Remember: challenges are not meant to stop you. They're meant to build you.

What are you going to fight for this week?

If you're not willing to fight for it... maybe it's time to forget about it.

Cheers!
