“ Fear can ride with you — but it cannot drive.”
What My Dad Left Behind : The Lesson I Wasn't Ready To Receive
Happy Father's Day to every father and father figure reading this.
Today I want to share something personal.
When my dad was sick, the doctors gave him instructions.
We did everything we could to make sure he was taken care of.
But there were moments he would just say — I'm not going to worry about it.
At the time I thought he didn't care.
He did.
What he was really saying was — I refuse to let fear and anxiety rob me of living my remaining days in peace.
I wasn't ready to receive that message yet.
After he passed, we were cleaning out his room.
That's when I found it.
A book titled: How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie.
I laughed out loud.
Here's why.
When my dad was promoted to supervisor at his job, the company sent him to leadership training.
He came home with books and materials.
At the time I didn't think much of it.
Years later I got into business and personal development.
That's when I discovered Dale Carnegie and other renowned leadership coaches.
And it all clicked.
My dad had been living those principles all along.
Even in his most vulnerable moments he was teaching me.
I guess I wasn't ready to hear it.
That's the thing about wisdom.
Someone can drop a word in your life and you may not be ready to receive it.
But if you listen and internalize it — it comes back to you when you need it most.
So here's what I want to leave you with this Father's Day.
Don't live in fear.
Yes — dream big. But as one wise person said:
"Respect reality enough to prepare."
And don't let preparation become procrastination.
Fear will show up. Let it ride along.
Just don't let it drive.
Happy Father's Day. 🎉
