When Curiosity Becomes Currency: How I Landed a Game Development Client
Recently, a customer reached out with an interesting request.
He wanted help creating a racing game.
He used ChatGPT which gave him conceptual Python code that he wanted to get working.
I looked through the code, got it working, and sent everything back to him.
Mission accomplished, right?
Not quite.
He came back: "Hey, I want to expand it further."
I kept it transparent...
"Pygame is okay for prototyping, but if you want to make a high-quality game, we need a different game engine."
Here's the thing...
A few months ago, I decided to learn the Godot game engine.
Not because I had to.
Not because a client asked for it.
But because I was curious.
I wanted to add to my toolset and start writing my own games.
It was just something I wanted to do.
Think about that for a moment...
That curiosity — that time I invested in learning something "for fun"?
It became the exact tool I needed to solve a customer's problem.
All those long hours coding my own applications?
That gave me the confidence to tackle this project.
So now? I'm working on a full game for a paying customer.
And I'm leveraging everything I've learned over the years.
3D modeling, programming and graphic design — Full circle!
Get this...
Some people are afraid of AI taking their jobs.
But here's the truth...
AI can't take your job if you're not one-dimensional.
Let me explain.
When you leverage AI tools properly, you can do 5x, even 10x the amount of work by yourself.
And someone still has to understand the big picture.
Think about architecture or design...
Sure, AI can generate blueprints.
You can use robotics for the labor.
But someone still has to plan it out and meet regulatory requirements.
AI is a tool, not a complete replacement.
The people who will thrive aren't the ones who fear AI.
They're the ones who use it to process information faster.
To deliver more value.
To serve more customers.
Would you agree?
The difference between replaceable and irreplaceable is simple: depth and breadth.
When you stack skills across different disciplines, you become invaluable.
You're not just a programmer or just a designer.
You're the person who can bring it all together.
That's what preparation looks like.
And when opportunity knocks? You're ready.
The Challenge: What Are You Learning Just Because?
This week, I want you to tap into your curiosity.
What skill have you been wanting to learn "just because"?
What interests you even though it doesn't relate to your current work?
Don't overlook those curiosities.
They might be preparing you for opportunities you can't even imagine yet.
Stack your skills.
And use AI as your accelerator, not a replacement.
Cheers!

How to Start Freelancing in 2025
This video provides a five-step definitive guide on how to start a successful freelance career in 2025.
The five steps are:
Focus on the Niche and the Service: Define your ideal customer and offer a specialized service. High-demand skills include Content Creation, AI Adoption, Advanced SEO (for chatbots), Copywriting, and Sales/Lead Generation. Choosing a narrower niche allows you to charge premium rates.
Project-Based Learning: Focus on applied learning by immediately implementing skills you acquire. Take up real-world projects or create sample work to practice and develop your own unique style.
Build a Professional Portfolio: Create a dedicated, professional-looking website using tools like Framer or Bento to showcase your work. Your portfolio should be niche-specific, featuring only relevant projects, even if they are self-initiated practice work.
Sales and Lead Generation: Master sales, which is often the missing skill for freelancers. The most effective ways to find clients include asking for referrals from current clients and targeted cold outreach (e.g., cold emailing) to your ideal customer persona. When pricing, use a fixed fee plus a bonus tied to performance to have "skin in the game."
Deliver the Service: To retain clients and convert one-time projects into Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), you must over-deliver. This involves setting clear expectations, creating realistic timelines, communicating constantly, and always striving to exceed client expectations.

Google and Amazon race to upgrade voice assistants
This CNBC report covers the ongoing competition between Google and Amazon to integrate generative AI into their voice assistants and smart home devices.
Google's Move: Google is embedding its Gemini AI into its entire suite of home products (Nest cameras, smart speakers). This is viewed as a strategic push to make the voice assistant experience smarter and create deeper "ecosystem lock-in."
The Shift to Screenless: The industry believes the next major hardware leap will be "screenless," where users talk to, not tap, their devices. This makes the smart home a critical testing area.
GenAI Advantage: Generative AI is intended to move voice assistants beyond simple tasks (like setting timers) to performing complex functions. For example, a Nest camera system can now process video and sound to explain the context of events you missed at home.
The Future: Both tech giants are also working to integrate a seamless e-commerce experience into these AI-powered home systems.
